CCSD has been working on an official position on the NHS over the past several weeks.
In addition, the CDP team will provide assistance on using it, as well as validating findings with the help of other datasets available to the program. We're also aiming to host at least one additional webinar in the spring of 2014 that helps members understand how to use income data from both the NHS and Taxfiler tables.
Here is the official CCSD position on the 2011 NHS (download):
The November 21 webinar "Using the NHS at the scale of cities and communities" was a great success, with 215 registrations, and 158 attendees.
In particular, it helped us understand some of the ways to assess the quality of the National Household Survey in addition to the global non-response rate, while driving home a commonly mentioned point: use the NHS to report on socioeconomic variables at the neighbourhood and municipal scale, but make sure to do so with caution.
Community Development Halton published a piece on charitable giving in Halton Region using 2010 taxfiler data on charitable donations.
If you're interested in reporting on charitable donations in your community, take a look at the taxfiler tables CDH used.
Community Data Canada is hosting a free webinar to discuss how the National Household Survey can serve the needs of municipalities and community sector organisations at the municipal and sub-municipal scale (census division, census subdivision, census tract, and dissemination area).
Statistics Canada delivered a presentation on the National Household Survey at the National Housing Research Committee on November 5, 2013. The presentation includes insight on data quality that elaborates on the information provided in the NHS user guide.
Congratulations to the City of Guelph and the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) for receiving the Community Indicators Consortium Impact Award for 2013 for their work on the Guelph Community Wellbeing Initiative. The Community Indicators Consortium is an active, open learning network and global community of practice among persons interested or engaged in the field of indicators development and application.
Find 2006 Census tables more easily in the communitydata.ca catalogue with a new .xls metadata reference file that we recently put together.
We recently acquired and catalogued 2011 National Household Survey (NHS) Profiles for all of Canada down to the census tract (CT) and dissemination area (DA) level.
All members of the CDP have access to the Envision tool from Environics Analytics, this tool allows you to easily create a map/report with the 2006 Census and 2011 Census/NHS data.
This conference will give you the opportunity to meet the technical team of Environics Analytics and learn more about the power of data!
