Join us for a webinar reviewing the recently launched Community Rental Housing Affordability Dashboard, a powerful new tool designed to provide a timely, Canada-wide view of rental housing affordability for the smallest and largest communities.
In today's rapidly changing housing market, timely and comprehensive data is essential for effective policy and planning. While traditional sources like the CMHC surveys and the Census provide valuable insights, their long reporting delays and limited coverage can make it difficult to get a clear picture of the current rental landscape.
Our new dashboard addresses these gaps by collecting and analyzing rental listings from multiple online sources, offering an up-to-date perspective on rental prices and availability.
Key features include:
- Community-level Coverage: We collect rental data available for communities across Canada, allowing for reports on rental trends at the census subdivision level for the smallest communities and at the census tract level for bigger cities.
- Comparison with Census and CMHC Data: By integrating our findings with established data sources, we allow for deeper insights into affordability, availability, and long-term trends.
- Automated Data Collection: We are developing a system to continuously gather rental listings from as many websites as possible, allowing for frequent updates with minimal costs.
- Dynamic Dashboard: We provide an interactive, regularly updated dashboard where CDP members of any capacity can explore real-time and historical rental price trends at various geographic levels.
- Data Accessibility: We make our public rental listings data available to CDP members to enable our members to perform their own analysis.
This tool is developed to empower Community Data Program members with the timely and accessible information needed to better support policy and planning efforts. By enhancing transparency in the rental market, we can work towards more effective solutions for housing affordability in Canada.
