The central objective of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) is to gather health-related data at the sub-provincial levels of geography (health region or combined health regions).
These tables estimate food insecurity rates (moderate and severe) by province and health region. One table provides estimates of the number of adults experiencing food insecurity and the second provides estimates of the number of households experiencing food insecurity. Each table is disaggregated by presence of children under 12 in the household (but does not describe the food insecurity status of those children).
The food insecurity variable (FSCDVAF2) is based on a set of 10 adult-referenced questions and describes the food security situation of the adult members of the household in the previous 12 months. It captures four kinds of situations:
0 - Food secure: No indication of difficulty with income-related food access.
1 - Marginally food insecure: Exactly one indication of difficulty with income-related food access.
2 - Moderately food insecure: Indication of compromise in quality and/or
quantity of food consumed (2 to 5 affirmative responses).
3 - Severely food insecure: Indication of reduced food intake and disrupted
eating patterns (>= 6 affirmative responses).
This file package contains two .xlsx files. The file denoted "HHWT" contains the values with household weights applied.
