Later this month, Statistics Canada will be hosting a free information session titled Demystifying Confidence Intervals, and a free webinar on results from the Survey on Early Learning and Child Care Arrangements. Both events are being held in English and French and are intended for basic data users. See below for more information from Statistics Canada:

Information Session: Demystifying Confidence Intervals

Description: In this session, we will attempt to demystify the concept of confidence intervals as they relate to sample data. A practical approach is used, placing emphasis on the meaning and interpretation of results rather than the mathematics. The goal is to make sense of some common challenges faced by data users when interpreting confidence intervals. The session is intended for a beginner audience. Some familiarity with basic statistical concepts would be beneficial/advantageous but not required.

Intended Target Audience: This is an introductory information session; it may be too basic for advanced data users.

Webinar: Child Care Use for Canadian Children Under Age 6: Results from the Survey on Early Learning and Child Care Arrangements

Description: Canadian governments, at federal and provincial levels, have shown increasing attention to the importance of child care, in particular as a means to increase parents’ labour force participation and enhance children’s development. The Survey on Early Learning and Child Care Arrangements (SELCCA) provides a current snapshot of early child care use in Canada, and can be used to better understand the reasons why families choose to use or not use different types of child care arrangements. This presentation explores findings from the 2020 SELCCA in order to demonstrate use of child care, types of arrangements used by parents, reasons for using and not using care, and difficulties finding child care. Results will also be compared to the 2019 SELCCA to explore changes that have occurred during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Intended Target Audience: This is an introductory webinar; it may be too basic for advanced data users.
