New initiative will extend resources and support to help Ontario's charities and nonprofits meet their legal requirements for accessible customer service.

Toronto (ON) November 23, 2010 – The Ontario Nonprofit Network announces the launch of their latest project: EnAbling Nonprofits Ontario (ENO).  ENO is a province-wide education initiative to support Ontario’s nonprofits and charities understand and comply with the mandatory Accessibility Standards for Customer Service.

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) was passed in 2005 and the first of five standards under the act, the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, is now law. Public sector organizations were required to comply with this standard by January 1, 2010 while the private sector and nonprofit organizations must comply by January 1, 2012.
In partnership with the Government of Ontario’s EnAbling Change partnership project and with guidance from a cross-sectoral advisory group, ENO will disseminate key information to the sector, develop educational resources, as well as host workshops and webinars to assist nonprofits in developing more inclusive customer services.
