When connected and aligned, the CUSP network and its partners can produce meaningful impact at the community scale, and can help shape the policy, programs, projects, and pursuits of senior government and others in a way that will be most effective when executed.
CUSP connects member cities, affiliate networks, and key partners to overcome shared challenges and advance individual, yet common goals. By cooperating on Canadian-specific issues, Canada’s large and leading cities are able to leverage opportunity with partners, attract funding, and collectively inform FCM efforts to shape federal policy and programs and operationalize those efforts locally.
As a result of the work of the CUSP Network:
Relationships among members and with key Canadian partner organizations are stronger and higher value to sustainability practitioners and their representative councils.
Federal policy and programs are informed by the experiences and perspectives of the Network’s members and partners and address the sustainability and climate change needs and objectives of member communities.
Canadian-specific research and analyses related to targets and commitments; data and reporting; financing and partnerships; and, equity and engagement of First Nations and other groups, have been developed to fill information gaps and/or gain efficiencies and productivity of municipal practitioners and partners.
Funding for sustainability and climate action in Canadian communities is greater, more diverse and more stable.
The network effectiveness of USDN is enhanced for CUSP members; and, in turn, CUSP members are key contributors to the USDN and its broader membership.
The Network, its staff and members direct our efforts in a way that adds value for member cities;
cooperates, rather than competes, with USDN, FCM, and existing Canadian networks; and
optimizes resources of staff, members and partners, by seeking opportunities to align with others, to augment and enhance the work of others, to fill gaps not served by others, and to avoid duplication
