January 13, 2014 – Peggy Taillon, President and CEO of the Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD), is pleased to announce a new partnership with Professor Ann Dale, Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Community Development, Royal Roads University.
Professor Dale brings a wealth of experience as a researcher, educator, acclaimed author and former federal government executive. Noted for her ability to bring about practical solutions, her research in the areas of governance, innovation and community vitality is designed to provide useful knowledge to Canadian decision-makers. Professor Dale has received both national and international recognition for her work. She is devoted to bringing expertise to bear on critical public policy issues, drawing on social capital using innovative on-line technology, such as through her e-Dialogue series.
“We extend a warm welcome to Ann Dale,” said Peggy Taillon. “Ann’s cutting edge work brings to the CCSD the capacity to lead collaborative research through virtual, online collaboratories, extending our ability to implement social development by design.”
Social development by design is a deliberative approach to improved problem understanding and solving. Evidence, collaboration, analysis and solution design are undertaken in open, experimental, physical and virtual spaces known as collaboratories. This approach has the potential to produce outcomes that are innovative and sustainable.
“As a researcher committed to speeding the exploitation of knowledge, I am interested in developing new models of collaborative research,” said Ann Dale. “Online e-collaboratories present a new way of collaborating to produce evidence-based, leading edge social innovations. I am delighted to undertake this work with Canada’s longest serving social development organization, sharing our respective expertise, networks and commitment to sustainable community development.”
Dale uses novel research dissemination tools, such as her YouTube channel, HEADTalks. An active researcher, Dale leads MC3, a climate change adaptation and mitigation research program studying best practices and innovations in community responses throughout British Columbia.
