From the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and Statistics Canada:

Core housing need is the indicator used in Canada to identify households not living in, and not able to access acceptable housing. It describes households living in dwellings considered inadequate in condition, not suitable in size, and unaffordable.

Housing stakeholders (federal, provincial and municipal housing agencies, those in the housing industry and in non-profit agencies, as well as academic researchers) employ core housing need to guide research, policy, planning and program implementation and development.

Statistics Canada has made smaller geographies down to the CT level available here.                                                                           Visualize the data at CMHC.

CDP will get a table with Core Housing Need variables, cross-tabulated with other dimensions in 2018.                                                            In the meantime, you can view the 2011 Core Housing Need table in our catalogue.
