ENVISION 2.7 will be available LIVE on Monday, March 17, 2014. The data release will, for the most part, follow our usual annual update schedule and format. However, some variables will be delayed until May because some aspects of the update have posed significant challenges as a result of the government’s decision to replace the mandatory long-form census with the voluntary National Household Survey (NHS). As was anticipated, this change in methodology resulted in reduced quality in some variables at the lower levels of geography in the data. The additional work to address this quality issue means that some of those variables in CensusPlus and DemoStats that are based on the NHS will not be available until May.

Two Stages of Data Release for CensusPlus and DemoStats – Part 1 on Monday, March 17, 2014; Part 2 in early May.

Prior to May, our data files along with ENVISION’s demographic reports will consist of a combination of 2013 and 2014 DemoStats data due to the ongoing work to adjust the 2011 NHS data. As a result, users should be aware of potential inconsistencies with certain themes, especially when looking at the counts of households or populations (less so with the percentages and distributions). Because some data have been adjusted to the 2011 Census and some are still reliant on the 2006 Census, our customers should be aware of the themes that are affected and the possible differences in counts. In May, these themes will be replaced with the new estimates.
